We are excited to be heading into Central Hokkaido for this year's trip and have lined up some beautiful accommodations to basecamp out of. We will be exploring two different zones and will be doing a hotel switch mid-week after our ski day. Each hotel offers some of the nicest hot springs we've been to so far and gorgeous Japanese meals.
Jan 18 is your check in day at the Kamihoroso. We will be a two minute drive from a mix of classic Japanese tree skiing and some alpine tours if conditions are favourable. Midweek we will ski for the day and make the hour drive to the Yukoman Ryokan. This second destination will offer the opportunity to ski tour around a volcanic area with open steam vents. There are also more ski touring destinations from each hotel if we feel conditions are prime in other locations nearby.

For travel from Tokyo the closest airport to Central Hokkaido is in Asahikawa. There are flights available from both Narita and Haneda airports to Asahikawa but they are slightly less frequent than flying to the busier Chitose airport. Once in Asahikawa it will be roughly an hour drive to the Kamihoroso. We will confirm if there is a shuttle service available at a later date and if not we will organize for a pick up at the airport.
Another piece of news is that the Japanese guiding regulations have shifted in the past year. Myself and Kevin will be joined by a Japanese ski guide for our trips this year. These are certified guides that have come recommended to us by our good friend Yuji. It will be great to have access to someone with local knowledge of the areas and an extra layer of safety for the groups!
If you plan on spending time in Tokyo or Sapporo prior to the ski trip we highly recommend using the Yamato courier service from the Narita airport to our hotel. This is a great service that lets you travel Japan without all your ski gear. Make sure to allow 48 hours for delivery . Check the the black cat link below!
Please go through our M-T-N Ski Guides booking policy (link below). You will find booking and cancelling policies, as well as a copy of the waiver you will be signing when we meet in person on your check-in date. We highly recommend purchasing trip and rescue insurance.
A $1,000 deposit is required to reserve your spot. The balance will be due in late September. Not included are your flights, transportation to the hotel, lunches and alcohol. The easiest form of payment is through e-transfer to admin@mtnguiding.com. We can also accommodate credit cards or PayPal if needed.
We’ll update this page as plans get finalized. Please fire away with any questions in the meantime.
We're really looking forward to this!
